@taiwan_girl Sorry - it was the extension in the spring of 1945. More specifically, to defeat an amendment that would have ended it. Truman wasn’t even Veep when lend-lease was passed. I blame prograf.

Reminds me of the movie Sahara that came out in 2005. BTW yes it's desert but this is how close to the water: [image: 1721836292395-80260cb6-106e-4696-8056-8b21a19d3209-image.png]

@89th Wow! I am not sure I would be approaching it again so soon after the first eruption. Yes, the odds may be that it will not happen so soon again, but the downside is pretty big if it does!

I like buffets. LOL (Somewhat related, but here is the standard operating procedure for workers in a US Chinese buffet, and is one reason why they are relatively "cheap". I should add that this is SOME (not all( of the Chinese buffets. 90% of the workers are in the US illegally typical work week is 6 days/week, generally 12 hours/day usually room and board is provided. Most meals will be eaten at the buffet. The buffet owner will own a house and the workers will stay there. wait staff often does not get a salary, but makes their money through tips. Kitchen staff will get a salary (at least partially in cash), not a lot but more than they could make back home. Most of the staff is sending a significant part of their salary back to their home country Adverts are all over a big city Chinatown (like Chicago) advertising for restaurant workers )

@Doctor-Phibes said in Too many tourists. No más!: They could also stop catering to the lowest common denominator Maybe Bhutan is on to something. LOL Charge people a minimum of USD$250/day, and the overall type of people visiting will change quite a bit. 555

White men are so widely hated now, she has an excellent chance to win. There will be a couple racist news outlets that give the white men a chance, but that is just wishful thinking.

Her laugh is relatively normal, it’s the timing and the usage of it. When she gets nervous or is being asked questions she doesn’t like, she starts to laugh. Sometimes it’s involuntary, but sometimes I think it’s on purpose and used to buy a few moments to formulate a deflection. That’s why it’s annoying.

Rich Little once said that the key to a good impression was not just the voice, but the mannerisms and delivery. You'd have to watch tape or at least see multiple tv programs containing the personality and then hone in on three or four unique movements.

That’s great! I’ll show my daughter tomorrow. She loves leopards and is even sleeping with a clouded leopard stuffed animal (did I really need to clarify that?) tonight.

Texas has safe haven law for one to give up a baby without legal consequences. Guess who ever abandoned the baby just didn't know about it.

https://www.wsj.com/tech/amazon-alexa-devices-echo-losses-strategy-25f2581a Maybe related to the above? The Amazon business unit that focuses on Alexa-powered gadgets lost $25 billion between 2017 and 2021, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported this week. Amazon claims it has sold more than 500,000 Alexa devices, which included Echo speakers, Kindle readers, Fire TV sets and streaming devices, and Blink and Ring smart home security cameras. But since debuting, Alexa, like other voice assistants, has struggled to make money. In late 2022, Business Insider reported that Alexa was set to lose $10 billion that year.

Yeah, it is a tough call. They definitely are good paying jobs. And I guess, when you are young, you think you will live forever and are more willing to take risks (smoking, etc.)
